The Maharajas’ offers one of the most expensive and luxurious luxury train rides in the World and the salons of this train draw inspiration from the private salons of the erstwhile Maharajas’ of India. Even before rail traveling was a thing in India, the Maharajas’ of India had an intense interest in these moving wonders on wheels that were invented by James Watt.
Many Maharajas’ of India who were ruling the various princely states took the initiative to build their lines whereas many Maharajas’ built miles of narrow gauge lines for their heir apparent so that they could play with their toy trains. When the officers of East India Company and dignitaries went for dinner at the palace of Maharaja of Gwalior, then he used to proudly flaunt his silver model train that chugs along the center of his banqueting table. Furthermore, The Maharaja of Vadodara built a fully functional toy train for his son at that time, who is a Maharaja now.
During that era when Maharajas used to Raj, they had their own personal carriages. Those carriages were draped in luxury and used on special occasions to visit states, nuptial sojourns, and hunting trips. Many carriages of that time were built and designed in the Art Deco style. Sylvan inlays, exquisite carvings, and elegant tapestries along with exquisite mirror and jewel work were used to decorate the carriages.
The trains that are built now are designed in a way that they are a recreation of the look of the old personal carriages of Indian Maharajas’. Every cabin of the Maharajas’ Train including the dining coupes is suffused with nostalgia for past grandeur. You can feel the aura of sheer opulence because the Quaint décor of this train is mixed with contemporary amenities. Guests will feel 5 Star pampering inside the cabins of Maharajas’ Express.
